Introducing The Body Perfect

From time to time we like to introduce new companies that we think you might be interested in. Today's reviews are from The Body Perfect, with bath and body products developed by Equibal Labs. The founder of The Body Perfect is Normajean Fusco. She developed a lifelong interest in chemistry and nature through her grandfather, homeopathic physician and herbalist who developed medicinal and beauty products that were used by some of Hollywood's most glamorous stars. Their philosophy: "At Equibal Labs, we believe Nature is the best chemist. That's why we look for our ingredients in plants like chamomile, goldnseal, corn , and Mexican wild yam. We include the highest possible concentrations in our skin care products, which are created and produced in our labs in Unionville, New York under Normajean's personal supervision."

Morning Glory Peel Mask

"Out with the old and in with the new. Morning Glory Peel Mask rejuvenates by gently peeling away dry, hard cells that can suffocate your skin, causing it to look old before its time. It's made with natural extracts of Chamomile to soothe irritation and inflammation, Lactic acid derived from corn to restore moisture and keep it in, and Rosemary to detoxify and purify. Lightly buffered Morning Glory Peel Mask leaves your skin supple and shining, ready to face a new day."

When I was young, my mom used to make a mask out of egg whites. When she would let me in on the fun, I remember the solution drying on my face and making it difficult to speak, and then the fun of getting to pull it all off in one big sheet. This product reminds me so much of that egg yolk peel. The instructions here say to apply in a very thin coat with the back of a spoon. The reason for this (as I learned) is that it doesn't dry evenly or remove easily when spread on too quickly. In the areas that are too thick, it will pull off in tiny pieces, and take forever to remove. In general -- despite my ineptitude in applying it -- I like this peel. My face felt cleaner and it did give my skin a little glow. I do think it may have been a little drying, which is okay in summer but would not be a desirable effect in the dry, winter air. One thing I learned while I was testing this: if you spread it on too thickly, wait longer for it to dry for better results removing it.

MoistureBal Hydrating Body Shampoo

"Cleanse and moisturize your body in the shower or the bath with MoistureBal Body Shampoo, made to lift away surface debris without removing your own natural oils.

Rich with humectants, water actually acts as a catalyst for this fragrant gel, turning MoistureBal Body Shampoo into a delicate mousse that softens as it cleans, even in the hardest water, and locks in moisture so you feel fresh and hydrated all day.

The light, exotic scent, derived from the essence of rare flowers, makes you think of a tropical sun shower and leaves the suggestion of moisture in your memory and on your skin."

I like the scent of this body shampoo. It's not overly floral and it doesn't smell like fruit. Like they said, it's a light scent, and to me, it smelled like...soap. And there's nothing bad about smelling clean as opposed to the produce department. The body shampoo is thick, so it's easy to apply with your hands or a washcloth, although I found that I got the best moisturizing effects when I just used my hands.

Cool Bronze Self Tanning Lotion

"The glow you get from the sun and tanning beds may look wonderful but it can be damaging to your skin. Just one application of Cool Bronze® will give you an all-over,natural-looking tan that is equal to hours on the beach or four sessions on a tanning bed without the harmful effects of UV rays. It only takes ten minutes to smooth on Cool Bronze®, and ten hours later you'll have the kind of sun-kissed tan you thought only Mother Nature could bestow. Cool Bronze® actually cools your skin as it tans and retains your natural moisture without oils that clog pores. Because your hair grows faster when you spend time in the sun, the addition of Finipil¨ in Cool Bronze® works to prevent the accelerated hair growth that often accompanies exposure to sunshine or tanning lamps with a special formula that is anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, and Panthenol and PABA free."

I don't really know if this product actually reduces accelerated hair growth or anything, but I can say with certainty that this tanning product definitely has an immediate and lasting effect. The color is somewhat orangish, but not terrible, but I did find it exceptionally difficult to get it to come out even. It is white coming out of the container, but once you start smoothing it on, it becomes transparent and soaks right in. One side of my leg is white. And my knees are shockingly white. I think with practice, this might be a very servicable self-tanner, but this is absolutely not a product for a beginner.
