Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15

stila_tinted.jpgWhat They Say: "Skin instantly looks softer and younger with this handy multi-tasker. It delivers a hint of sheer coverage, subtle shimmer, SPF 15 and added moisture in one effortless application. Perfect for everyday use, the silky formula blends beautifully for a pretty, luminous look."

Jen's Experience: I had some initial doubts about this product. I mean, I know that tinted moisturizers aren't designed to provide a lot of coverage, so they don't necessarily need to make a thousand shades to match your skin tone. But I was very surprised the first time when I squeezed out a bit and it looked like ordinary facial moisturizer. I was pleased though when I applied it, and found that while it doesn't have nearly the coverage of my normal foundation -- or even my other tinted moisturizers -- I was able to give it a pass for the dewy, glowy look that it gave my skin. I do feel the need to apply some concealer under my eyes and here and there for a more even look, but sometimes it's nice to let my face breathe, and this product does that and lets my skin shine through.

Review: NEW Stila Long Wearing Lip Color

stilalongwearlip.jpgWhat They Say: "A long wearing lipstick and lip gloss all in one. The secret is a blend of patent-pending polymers that provide long-lasting wear with rich pigment that glides on like your favorite lip gloss. The tip of the pen is contoured to provide easy, precise application - hugging every curve of you lip. ...boasts extended wear time while keeping lips feeling soft and smooth - never dry!"

Melissa Says: A whole new way to make my lips prettier opened up with this product. This stuff smells sweet when you apply it, goes on super-easy and smooth (thanks to the perfect rounded tip that gives a great edge every time), and it feels so very light and comfortable. As if that weren't enough to make me love it, it can be applied sheer or layered for a deeper effect, and the color STAYS PUT, for hours.

Unlike typical "long-wear" lip products, this doesn't look or feel dry, and the "gloss" part of the product doesn't actually make it shiny or wet-looking, but keeps your pout moist and comfortable. I have never tried anything like this before, and as a lip product ADDICT, this is one that I'm more than happy to give my thumbs-up to. Honestly, I love it.

Retail Price: $18.00 (at sephora.com until the Stila Cosmetics site is finished being updated)

Stila Eye Concealer

What They Say: "Stila's specially formulated yellow-orange tones skillfully highlight and neutralize any uncomely blue or red discoloration. This creamy formula glides on easily for effortless application.
Tips:
Avoid concealer overload. Apply eye concealer using #2 eye concealer brush then layer and blend only where there is discoloration. Foundation applied under the eye is a great long-wearing base for eye concealer."

Jen's Experience: I will start by saying, the Bobbi Brown concealer/corrector combo is really a hard act to follow. I heard that Stila's concealer was a great product in a recent issue of Elle Magazine, and when I couldn't scrape any more Bobbi Brown out of the container, I broke down and headed to the Stila counter.

The product itself is very thick and requires a concealer brush for application. It works okay over top of moisturizer, but works better on top of foundation or even foundation base. I like using my Dior Base De Teint underneath because it does a little lightening and it also makes the concealer apply a little more evenly. The end result is that it looks a little drier, but for all practical purposes a lot like the Bobbi Brown. It just doesn't last as long, I'm sad to say. I would give it about 6 hours on a given day, and that's just not enough. I don't want to walk into a 3 PM meeting looking like I didn't sleep the night before.

If the last product that I used weren't absolutely fabulous, I would probably not be as hard on this one, but now I know: this one is just not the best concealer out there, at least for me.

Stila Convertible Color in Gerbera

What They Say: "As seen in In Style's Best Beauty Buys 2005! Brighten cheeks and lips with creamy, translucent color. This two-in-one compact holds the key to easy, monochromatic makeup. Tap onto cheeks or press onto lips for a fresh, pretty flush of color. Mini-mirrored compacts make touch ups on the go a snap."

Jen's Experience: I've been hearing how great this product is all over the place. Most recently, it was used on the cover of InStyle with Uma Thurman. (Doesn't she look great? She's one of my beauty idols.) I chose the exact same color that was used for her, and really couldn't be more pleased. It's really easy to apply -- all you need to remember is not to use too much at once, as the pigments are really concentrated. Blending is a snap; I barely have to do it at all. The first several times that I wore it, I thought it disappeared too quickly, but I find now that if I press it into my face and follow with powder, it is much longer lasting. This product can also be used on the lips, but it's not as amazing. Plus, it makes your $20 disappear a lot quicker. I am truly impressed with this product, and it will certainly go into rotation now with my Nars Orgasm blush.

New! Stila Kajal Eyeliner

What They Say: "Kajal eye liners are formulated to mimic the ultra-soft texture of the Indian eye darkener of the same name. The luscious formula glides on perfectly, without dragging across the fragile skin of the eye area. Delivers bold, clear, true color that easily blends and beautifies.

Tips:
Use kajal eye liner for a precise, crisp line or smudged to create a smoky appearance. Works well with any eye shadow formula."

Melissa's DeLush Downlow: I LOVE the color I got, Amethyst. The texture of this liner is smooth as silk and super-gentle when applying to the eye. And the intensity? Fabulous. But I've noticed some smudging (when I didn't want it to), especially when applied under the eye. And there was a little creasing when applied on the upper eyelid. I've found that this liner works most effectively when you apply then smudge it for a smoky effect to begin with. However, setting this with powder helps to keep it in place longer.

Overall, very pretty and comfortable. Just not something I'd recommend to use if you want a precise line or want something truly long-wear.
