DeLush Reader Roundtable: False Lashes For "The Rest of Us"?
Ah, the false eyelashes, they are back in a big, big way. At least that's what the celeb photos and magazine features tell us.
La Lohan (she's said she won't go anywhere without them), Beyoncé, Paris, Madonna, Oprah and more - they've all rocked the false eyelashes and made us wonder if something so small could make us look that good, too. With the new, more natural-looking versions out lately, are false lashes a real working option for us non-celebs? Are they worth it, or too much of a hassle?
Tell us what you think in the comment section. (And if you have a favorite brand, share it with the DeLush readers!)

I have wanted to try them for a while now. I've heard, for example, that Shu Uemura's are awesome. But when it comes down to it..gluing things to my eyelashes terrifies me. Much like the heated eyelash curler from Blinc. I might glue my eyes shut. Or rip off all my eyelashes when removing them. Scary.
I have a lot of experience with false eyelashes thanks to my performing arts background. Honestly? It's nothing to be nervous about - the glue isn't really that scary. They make an ENORMOUS difference (usually for the positive) and can be a real boost to your overall look for say, a wedding or a formal event.
I cannot, however, imagine wearing them every day. They feel heavy on the eye, and think about what daily use of that adhesive would do to the skin around your eyes!
I'm pretty sure most celebrities you see with mile long lashes are wearing professionally applied lash extensions and not just regular glue-on-yourself eyelashes. If I had $200-$300 to sink every 2 months I would love to get them, but as is I'll deal with my wimpy eyelashes!
I LOVE false lashes and think they can make the difference between beautiful and WOW when it comes to finishing that made-up face. I like strip lashes for special events. Shu makes lovely lashes but, honestly just Ardell and Duo from the drug store work just as well. For every day wear, I use Ardell lash "clumps". Just 3 or 4 along the outside of each eye and it extends and "lifts" the eye. For more of a "doe-eyed" look I place the lashes more toward the center and it opens the eye a bit more. I wouldn't be caught out without them!
I've used ones by Sugar, and the adhesive is really more like rubber cement than glue, so theres no reason to fear gluing your eye shut. Anyway, the learning curve is huge for applying them, but it just takes practice and patience. I, too, think they feel too heavy for everyday. They do create a dramatic effect, and would be good for a special night out. Maybe using the small ones, or the half-sized ones for everyday-types.
Umm, I say they are a no go, for me at least. The first and only time I wore them (used Sephora's eyelash kit) my guy asked me what I had done to my eyes because I looked like Miss Piggy. Needless to say that comment didn't go over very well and I haven't worn them since. He really likes heavy dark 60's era eyes so I thought that would do the trick but alas, it was not pretty.
