Drugstore Favorites Week Review: Maybelline Roller Color Eye Shadow

What They Say: "Roll on for a sheer, loose powder look. Easy, no brush application. No spills or flaking."

Jen's Experience: I've been seeing these new loose powder eyeshadows everywhere, so I had to give this one a try. I tried out "Twirling Taupe", which is sort of a muted gold with tiny sparkles. I am a big fan of gold eyeshadow; I've got subtler shades that I wear to work and some really fantastic glittery ones for a night on the town. What I like about this particular gold is that it doesn't apply too much color at once. The roller ball tip forces you to put it on in layers. I find that you need to shake the container from time to time to keep the color flowing, but once you do, it applies easily, without requiring a lot of pressure on the delicate eye area. I was very pleasantly surprised at how long-lasting this product is. Without any base or powder it lasts 4-6 hours. Maybelline can count me in as a fan with this product -- I'm trying the lavender next!

Retail Price: $2.60 (Makeup.com and major drugstores)

That's really interesting, because I tried this product a while ago (in the same color, actually), and I didn't think it worked that well. The shadow came our unevenly, leaving one side of my eyelid shimmery and the other with practically no color at all. I really liked the color, though, so I ended up breaking the roller ball and using a brush to apply the shadow. I like it a lot better this way:)

I really like the drugstore roller shadows... so quick and easy! I agree that sometimes the colour's a bit uneven... you have to kind of roll the ball around on your had and jiggle it a bit to get the shadow going. The Rimmel version is also good - it goes on a bit stronger and more evenly, but is more sparkly.

Thanks for the fab review!
