Review: BECCA Jewel Dust Eyeshadow

What They Say: "These exquisitely embellished powders add playful color to the eyes when worn alone, and create rich, exotic tones when layered over neutral eyeshadows.
Created from pure pigments that provide the highest lustre and intensity, this exclusive formulation does not contain talc, fillers, or inferior silver pearl pigments.
To use: Apply with a brush onto bare eyelids for a sheer sparkling wash of translucent color, dab on with a sponge tip applicator or a flat brush for more concentrated color.

Jen's Experience: I'm kind of fascinated at the recent explosion of loose eyeshadow powders. I've tried the L'Oreal HIP Pigments and Laura Mercier Mineral Eye Powder so far, and with this third one, I pronounce them to be far more difficult to use than normal, pressed eyeshadow colors. The Becca Jewel Dust implementation does, however, seem to work for me better than the others that I've tried. As long as I'm not overly ambitious by putting a huge amount on my brush (and with my brush slightly wet), I'm able to keep the eyeshadow from going all over my face as I apply it. The color is not as dense as some of the others I've tried, so it's actually possible, as they say in the description, to go from a beautiful sheer color to a dense, deeper shade. I did find that over the course of the day, it did seem to migrate a bit, but in comparison with other products like this, I am happy with the wear. (But I tend to wear it at night, when the smudging seems to be a little less evident. I can just pretend like I'm going for the smoky eye look.) The more sheer the application, the less migration I saw with the color, so keep that in mind when applying it. The color I went with is Titania, a silver that is perfect with this season's metallics, grey, or black.

If you're really looking forward to trying out some of these loose powder eyeshadows, I think this one is definitely your best bet. The application is easier than others, it wears pretty well, and the color selection is amazing.
