Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Bronzer, Blush and Eyeshadow

physicianformshimmerstrip.jpgWhat They Say: “Shimmer all year long with this glowing powder which highlights skin with five luminous bands of warm beige, sand and bronze. All shades blend together for the ultimate glamorous, tan glow. Use all over face as a bronzer, sweep over cheeks as a blush or use each individual shade as an eye shadow. Silky smooth texture for a radiant complexion.”

Alissa’s Opinion: I tried this out in Sunset Strip (bronzer) and Malibu Strip (pink sand bronzer). I really loved the “custom” part of this bronzer. The lightest shades can be used to highlight and the darker ones are great for contouring. When mixed together on a big brush, the effect is a great tanned glow. The pink tones in Malibu Strip really brought out the blue in my eyes when I applied it on my lids and Sunset Strip was great for both face and décolletage. The texture was smooth and the amount of shimmer was just right. You really can’t go wrong at this price.

Review: Bye Bye Blemish

byebyeblem.jpgWhat They Say: "This overnight spot treatment rapidly reduces the size and severity of pimples. Salicylic acid exfoliates dead skin cells, allowing the all-natural drying agents to penetrate pores and treat infection.

Bye Bye Blemish Drying Lotion is a Hollywood celebrity skin care secret. Life in the spotlight demands the best spot treatment!

Features and Benefits:
* Proven spot treatment
* Reduces pimples overnight
* Safe for sensitive skin
* Maximum strength
* 10% Sulfur formula

Directions for use:
DO NOT SHAKE. Allow sediment to settle. Cleanse skin thoroughly before applying medication. Dip sterile cotton swab into pink sediment. Apply to individual pimples. Leave on overnight."

Melissa Says: Aside from the obvious fact that this is something you have to apply at night and that will leave a lovely pink dot of dried product on your face while it works (which are not negatives in my opinion but givens), it's hard to find anything not to like about how well this works. It doesn't make blemishes completely disappear overnight (although comes close with very small ones that are barely rising to the surface), it does definitely reduce redness and inflammation. Most are completely gone within two to three applications. I also don't experience any drying or irritation of the skin around the applied area.

This actually reminds me very much of Sonya Dakar's Drying Potion, which I used up long ago, and was quite sad that I wasn't able to replace right away because of the price. I'd say this one is MUCH more accessible and comparable in effectiveness, and the application process is the same. This will also last a very long time, as long as you make sure to screw the cap tightly shut each time so it doesn't begin to dry out faster than it should.

Retail Price: $9.99 (at ulta.com and currently on sale for $8.99 at drugstore.com)

Review: Halo Smoothing Shampoo

What They Say: “Illuminate and protect hair color with Graham Webb's Halo Smoothing Shampoo, which controls frizz and helps soften texture for a luxuriously soft, smooth, sleek finish. The technologically advanced formula in this smoothing shampoo balances porosity and closes the cuticle to lock in color and create a smooth, sleek strand of hair from scalp to ends. The gentle formula in Halo's Smoothing Shampoo envelops each strand in a smoothing, protective layer to prevent frizz. Lush surfactants gently cleanse while protecting moisture balance.”

Alissa’s Opinion: I love most of the Halo line, so I wasn’t surprised when I ended up replacing my regular daily shampoo with this one. The difference can be felt as soon as I rinse it out; my locks feel smooth and conditioned. My hair is always soft after washing with this, yet it isn’t weighed down. I like to use Halo Smoothing Shampoo whether I am straightening my hair or wearing it wavy because it stands up nicely to humidity. Of course it smells yummy too!

Review: Just for Redheads Sun Shimmer Brickette Bronzer

justforred-shimmerbrick.jpgWhat They Say: "Create the perfect redhead sun-kissed glow. JFR's exclusive triple-milled powder creates a bronzer that glides on like the breath of an angel."

Jamie’s Thoughts: This bronzer is fantastic. The extra milling does indeed make it whisper soft upon application, yet the pigmentation is substantial enough to make a big difference. Be careful, bronzer addicts – a little of this will go a surprisingly long way. Another bonus? The combination of colors is laid into the brickette in stripes, so it’s possible to skip over one hue that might be too dark for your complexion (I skipped the golder, more glittery shade a couple times with ease). I would suggest this not only for redheads, but anyone with fair to medium skin.

Review: Oscar Blandi Raffinata Hair Straightening Balm

oscarblandiraff.jpgWhat They Say: “Raffinata is a hair straightening balm designed to calm and shape hair without weighing it down, particularly when using hot styling tools.
This straightening balm physically helps in straightening hair – it is not just a cream that sits on your hair shaft to give a smooth appearance. This product actually penetrates into the cuticle, providing smoothness to natural waves and eliminating any degree of curl.
This high powered straightener combats unwanted static and frizz, prevents hair from expanding in high humid conditions, protects hair while blow-drying and minimizes blow-drying time.”

Alissa’s Opinion: This is my new favorite hair product! It adds just enough weight to my fine hair to keep it smooth and it gives me plenty of moisture without greasiness. I didn’t find that it minimized drying time, but it was easier to get stick-straight locks with my flat iron. I even use this balm on my dry tresses on days when I go curly, as it adds a bit of definition and protection from humidity. This is a great, long-lasting product for anyone fighting their wavy hair genes.

Review: Physician's Formula Summer Eclipse® Bronzing & Shimmery Face Powder (in Moonlight/Light Bronzer)

physiciansformsummereclipse.jpgWhat They Say: "Provides a warm and vibrant bronzed complexion all year long without the harmful effects of the sun. ...Amazing bi-colored bronzer combines the perfect blend of pearlescent gold and warm bronze to create a light tan glow. Hypoallergenic. Fragrance-free. Oil free. Non-comedogenic. Dermatologist approved."

What Melissa Says: I really think that some of Physician's Formula products are often underrated or passed over by people who haven't tried some of the line. Personally, I've found their powder products (mineral powder, blush, etc.) to be quite impressive, especially given the moderate price.

As an easily-accessible drugstore brand, their wide range of bronzers (expect to see more of them covered here on DeLush in the coming months) perhaps may give you so many choices that you aren't sure which to try. Let me clear up at least one question here: this version, especially in the shade I've tried, is absolutely PERFECT for those with fair to medium light skin who are gun=shy when it comes to bronzers. It is amazingly subtle, yet gives the faintest hint of glow. If bronzers typically just come out looking like too much on you, this is really something you should try.

I must emphasize that I don't want the word "shimmery" in the product name to throw you or scare you off. These powders are so soft and gentle, and even the shimmer portion blends beautifully onto your skin without being overbearing. You end up with a more radiant look, period.

Another winner in my book from this brand.

Review: von Natur Absolute Facial Crème Cleanser

vonnaturabsolutef.jpgWhat They Say: “Nourish dry skin while cleansing impurities out of maturing skin. With amazing antioxidants and moisture retention ingredients, skin will show a visible improvement. Besides the skin being the largest organ, it is also the largest organ of elimination, so cleansing is one of the most critical steps in maintaining a healthy complexion.”

*Note the Absolute Facial Line is “designed for women suffering from both wrinkles and acne. It works to help smooth the appearance of wrinkles and to clarify, soften, refine and rejuvenate the skin.”

What Lisa Says: This is an interesting cleanser. For those wanting a soap and water, lot o’ bubbles, squeaky clean kind of feeling, this is NOT for you but then, most mature clients aren’t looking for that. It looks, feels and smells like the green clay masks I used to use when I was 16 and my skin was oily. This minty green creamy cleanser does a great job of cleaning your skin and leaves it feeling extremely hydrated but not oily. You can actually see the difference in your pre and post wash.

The finer lines around my eyes and lips were diminished within about a week to 10 days leaving an over all softer look around my eyes. I don’t have acne so I cannot verify those claims but the ingredients in this product lead me to believe that there’s nothing in it that would hurt those who are acne prone. In fact, for the price, I would definitely give it a try if that were one of the things you want to address. It certainly has all the ingredients (including phytoestrogens) to clean and soothe acne prone skin. You can check them out on their website.

Also of note regarding this product: they are cruelty free, certified vegan, non-comedogenic/toxin free, sulfate/paraben free and are made here in the United States.

Review: Artemis Woman “Heel Smoother Pro HS-1000”

artemiswomanheel.jpgWhat They Say: "This revolutionary pedicure appliance smoothes calluses and removes dry skin on heels and toes in seconds, without the use of harsh chemicals or dangerous blades. Perfect for today’s fashion of sandals and open heeled shoes. Comes with a full 1oz jar of the exclusive Healing Gems® Topaz Foot Butter, with rich, nourishing shea butter, purifying aromatherapy essential oils, and uplifting Topaz crystals to soften feet and revitalize the spirit!

Approved by the American Podiatric Medical Association."

Jamie’s Thoughts: You would be shocked to hear some of the things I have done to keep my dancer feet comfortable and in working order. I won’t waste your time listing them, especially since you might be reading this on your lunch break and let’s face it – foot talk can get gross. Let’s just say I was a prime candidate to review a product like this.

And wouldn’t you know it – a battery operated beauty gadget that actually works! The smoother is lightweight – roughly the size of a hairbrush, and comes with two buffing heads (one large and rounded, one smaller and pointed). The larger buffing head worked well for my hardened heels, calluses, and around the outer edge of my big toes. The smaller, more refined head was fantastic for cuticles and other more sensitive areas. You can officially throw away your nail files, pumice stones, and other assorted devices of podiatric torture.

This little baby isn’t, however, for the faint of heart. You will have to be comfortable with the noise (which isn’t awful, but is akin to a very quiet buzzsaw), as well as the sensation of your own skin being rubbed away. Anything is better, in my book, than sitting down to a pedicure and having the esthetician look at your feet in horror and dismay. (Just me? Anybody? Okay then. Moving along.) Once you get the hang of the angles and speeds, you’ll never have to be embarrassed at the salon again. Just a quick maintenance buff, a dab of the Bergamot and Lemon-scented Topaz Butter Lotion, and you’re done. Take the money you would have spent on a salon pedicure, and put it towards a fabulous new pair of shoes that show off your brand-new feet!

Review: Sof Soles Chill Moisturizing Foot Gel

What They Say: "Provides instant cooling relief after any workout. A special
blend of Vitamin E and Aloe nourishes your skin completely so you get ready to hit it again."

Jen's Experience: I torture my feet on a daily basis with high heels and pointy toes and adorably cute shoes that are really not my size, so calluses are par for the course for me. I've made no secret of my general disdain for putting ooey, gooey creams on my feet. And part of that comes from the fact that when I use do use foot creams, after I've put my heels back on for a few hours, all the effects of the cream go away.

Needless to say, when I started using this, I didn't have high hopes. But I was completely won over by the fast-absorbing gel that doesn't leave an oily mess on my sheets, that tingles when I put it on, and that actually moisturizes my feet for more than a few hours. I never would have expected this, but I LOVE this stuff. I highly recommend it.

Review: Sue Devitt Long Lasting Lip Liner

suedevittlipliner.jpgWhat They Say: "Create additional longevity for your lipstick or use to enhance your own natural lip shape. The revolutionary non-feathering texture contains Nylon-12, is long lasting, non-drying and offers maximum performance to provide radiant, enhanced lips. The perfectly shaped brush tip allows for a professional application."

Melissa Says: This liner is incredibly soft and creamy, yet it has great staying power. True, it doesn't last quite as long as my Revlon ColorStay lip liners, but it puts up a darn good fight. The fact that your lips still feel incredibly comfortable and NOT dry after applying it, before you even add lipstick or gloss, is a marvelous thing. The lip brush tip on the other end is also very handy for applying gloss or a nice not-too-thick layer of lipstick. This one's a winner for me.

Review: Von Natur Blue Green Algae Body Polish and Headthrob Bath Soak

vonnaturbluegreen.jpgWhat They Say: “Von Natur’s Exquisite Bath Line is vegan-certified, phthalate, gluten, paraben, and sulfate free, and naturally derived.”

About the Blue Green Algae Body Polish: “All the ingredients in this amazing Body Polish help to: repair, tone, firm, reduce photo and free radical damage, improve skin hydration and elasticity, smooth and soften with great penetrating ability, help inflamed or acne skin, cleanse, refresh, absorb moisture, increase local blood circulation, and aid in healing minor wounds and irritated skin. Need we say more?”

Alissa’s Opinion: The color of this body polish makes a gorgeous first impression, as does the thick consistency and fresh, minty fragrance. Scrubbing down with this blend of olive oil and sea salt is definitely a good way to start the day. I can’t say whether or not this scrub has repaired or firmed my skin, but I always feel smooth and soft after using it. It also works great as a foot scrub for home pedicures.

About the Headthrob Bath Soak: “The natural cleansing, toning, refreshing, astringent, antiseptic and moisture absorption properties of Real Salt along with MSM’s ability to detoxify the body, increase blood circulation, reduce muscle cramps, help muscles heal and relieve stress, arthritis, inflammation, and back pain, and a beautiful blend of specialized essential oils for head and body aches, make your bath experience relaxing while it benefits your entire body.”

Alissa’s Opinion: Personally, I prefer bubble baths to salt soaks. But this salt is intended for a specific kind of bath (i.e. the stress and pain relieving kind) and it accomplishes its objective quite well. After a long day on your feet, a strenuous workout or an emotionally taxing occasion, immersing yourself in a richly fragranced Von Natur Headthrob bath is so therapeutic. The scent is a little on the medicinal side, but I like how it clears the mind (along with the nasal passages).

Review: Dove SkinVitalizer

What They Say: "The NEW Dove™ SkinVitalizer is a first-of-its-kind, daily face cleansing tool with a technologically advanced method that delivers a deep clean as well as massaging and exfolitating benefits for healthy, beautiful skin. The NEW Dove™ SkinVitalizer is designed for use with Dove® Cleansing Pillows. Available in two formulas, these pillows are gentle on all skin types and leave skin feeling wonderfully clean, soft and radiant."

Jen's Experience: Sometimes when it's time to go to bed and it's really late, I have a hard time motivating myself to wash my face. But now that I've got this tool, I really don't have any excuses any more. All I have to do is put the facial cleansing pillow on the Skinvitalizer, hit the 'go' button, and not only do I get to wash my face without a whole lot of effort, but I actually get a better clean than when I use a washcloth and a cleanser. I use the cleansing side rather than the more rough exfoliating side since my skin is sensitive, but all the same, I've never had an issue with breakout out after using it. I'm just so impressed. This is one drugstore item that's absolutely worth trying.

kazamhandandbody.jpgWhat They Say: "Created by Ms. Marjorie Moutari, the Kazam line of natural body care was a combination of 'travel and knowledge, experience and creative ideas for bath and body formulas to create a range of truly indulgent products to delight and soothe your body'. Only the finest ingredients nature has to offer goes into the making of our products, and specially selected for their skin nourishing qualities.

• ENCOURAGES SKIN RENEWAL AND TISSUE REGENERATION.
• A GREAT MOISTURIZER FOR MATURE SKIN

Ms. Moutari feels 'passionately about producing beautiful skin care without the use of harsh chemicals, parabensas, artificial preservatives and artificial fragrances.'”

What Lisa Says: Compared to other lotions I’ve tested, Kazam Hand and Body Lotion has to be near or at the top of my “Love it!” list. This product does everything it promises and a bit more. Whether applying just after the shower or mid-day this product sinks in almost immediately leaving an absolute trace of nothing on your skin – no waxiness, oiliness, nada! The only thing I was left with was visibly hydrated, soft, skin that lasted most of the day along with a lingering fragrance of ylang, sandalwood and jasmine. I did apply it twice daily but that’s all I needed. While the fragrance is lovely it is a bit stronger than most lotions but that’s part of the Kazam experience: nut butters, extracts and essential oils. Best of all, there was absolutely nothing on the label I couldn’t pronounce or wasn’t familiar with.

Review: Dove Ultimate Clear Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant

doveultimate.jpgWhat They Say: "Revolutionary new formula won’t leave white marks on clothes! Contains ¼ translucent moisturizers to care for your underarm skin. Provides powerful 24 hour protection."

Toya’s Take: With summertime here (unofficially), the heat and humidity are starting to go through the roof here in lovely Charm City. It’s time to gear up for the next few sweaty, sticky months. I’m not a heavy sweat-er, but anyone can look forward to perspiration if you try to make it through the summer months around here. For years, Secret has been my deodorant of choice, but I’ve found something better. Folks, meet Dove Ultimate Clear. It is the most awesome deodorant ever! It applies in a silky smooth manner and doesn’t sting like heck when you use it on freshly shaved armpits. It gives unbelievable protection – I remain fresh and dry all day. And the best part? No nasty white marks on my black tops! (I still haven’t figured out how to get those things off – I hear baby wipes are a good trick, I’ll have to try those.) Review: beautyADDICTS RelationLIPS and LipCLICK Retractable Brush

beautyaddicts-relationlips.jpgWhat They Say: (about RelationLIPS)"Discover our dazzling combination of irresistible colors and luscious textures infused with shea butter, aloe vera, vitamin E and a hint of wild berry essence. Total lip protection and chic, high shine color."

(about the LipCLICK Retractable Brush) "Our new retractable lip brush is chic, sleek and the perfect definition of 'Form Meets Function'. Fashionistas already love it – and so will you!"

Melissa Says: (about RelationLIPS) Gloss palettes don't always appeal to me, mostly because they can be a bit larger than I want for slipping in my purse, or they may have a shade or two I never really want to dip into. I tried this palette in ExpressLIPS, which was filled with four neutral beige, mauve, and gold glosses. As with each of the other three palettes, one was Glossy, one Matte, one was a High Shine, and the Sizzle had a hint of shimmer.

Each shade looks amazing alone or over liner or lipstick, feels very comfortable, and stays fairly well. Obviously, I noticed an increase in staying power when coupled with a lip liner. There is barely any taste or smell to the glosses, which isn't really a negative. The compact has a more-than-ample mirror inside, and is quite slim. I would say there's enough gloss in the pots to last one or two months with frequent use, longer if you only pull it out from time to time.

(about the LipCLICK Retractable Brush) I absolutely LOVE this brush. It has a high-quality tip and is so easy and mess-free to use. It's small enough when shut to slip into your jeans pocket inconspicuously, but it extends in one quick extension and doesn't feel cheap or flimsy at all. Its square shape is easy to hold onto when applying. I'm telling you, this brush eliminates any feeling of inconvenience I have at the thought of tossing a gloss pot or palette into my purse without any built-in means of application. I think you'll love it.

Review: Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF 15

esteeresiliencelift.jpgWhat They Say: "Combining the powerful benefits of revolutionary Resilience Lift Extreme skincare, Estee Lauder brings you its first ever foundation to give skin a more lifted look – Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF15. This is a totally new way to experience foundation! The luminous liquid makeup delivers beautiful radiant skin that is actively being protected on a daily basis, and looks more lifted with continued use. Flawless skin today, firmer, more youthful looking skin tomorrow.

Containing potent skincare actives, Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF15 is the most groundbreaking foundation from Estee Lauder to date. Not only does it do everything you would want a foundation to do; go on smoothly and seamlessly, camouflage imperfections, even out skin tone, look natural on the skin, Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF15 also delivers superior skincare benefits.

Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF 15 will have a true visible impact on the way your skin will look, from the moment you put it on your skin will look brighter, more radiant, and in as little as four weeks, you will have more lifted looking skin.

Upon application, the superior skincare ingredients, contained in Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra firming Makeup, immediately work to hydrate and improve the skin’s elasticity. Specially treated pigments and light illuminating mica instantly impart a radiant glow to the skin, making it appear smoother and more even. Pores are minimized as fine lines and wrinkles disappear.

In 15 beautiful color-true shades, Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup’s long wearing formula features a ground-breaking mix of skin-improving ingredients delivering more lift, more moisture and more radiance.

More lift
• Features the revolutionary Extreme Lift Complex containing Triterpenes, Tetra, Hexapeptides and Energy that help skin boost its natural production of collagen for long-term improvement in visible lift.
• Polylift, a protein rich flexible film comprised of Sweet Almond and Vegetable Albumen, immediately works to help skin feel tighter.

More moisture
• Hyaluronic Acid creates a reservoir effect by slowly releasing moisture to keep skin supple and hydrated all day.
• The Lipid Complex of Avocado, Melon Fruit Extract, Cholesterol, Murumuru butter, Ceramides and Linoleic Acid help restore the skin’s natural surface epidermal layer enabling it to better retain moisture and critical skin care ingredients and further protect the skin from harmful environmental aggressors.

More Radiance
• Seigesbecka, a plant extract, helps skin maintain its natural elastin and collagen levels, helping it to maintain a youthful, supported spring.
• Hydrolyzed Collagen and Soy Protein help provide support to the skin helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Sunscreen and anti-oxidants provide a protective calming shield for the skin helping to combat the visible effects of daily environmental stressors and sun exposure – all factors that can prevent the skin from accepting and effectively utilizing skincare ingredients.

Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup SPF 15 is dermatologist tested, non-acnegenic, fragrance free, non-streaking, color true and safe for sensitive skin."

Lisa’s Experience: I was impressed with this product from the onset beginning with the packaging – a hefty, nicely shaped bottle that easily fits in your hand with a pump top that delivers the precise amount. Two pumps and it’s enough product for complete coverage of my entire face with a little extra leftover to build a heavier coverage (which I like). I applied this product with my fingers, a brush and a dampened sponge and, while all were quite satisfactory, I think the brush produces the prettiest results.

The texture is creamy and the color is true. Once on the skin it produces a flawless, hydrated, luminous effect. Not shiney. Just highlighted where you should be with fine lines minimized and barely noticeable. It’s simply beautiful! For those wanting to try Armani’s gorgeous Designer Shaping Foundation but cringe at the price, this is very similar and easier on the pocket book.
I will say that I did not get to use it long enough to see any “lifting” results, however, due to the products ability to hydrate, minimize fine lines and add illumination, I felt like I looked a little more lifted. I will keep using this to see if the lift effect I’m seeing is truly lifting tissue or an illusion of all the properties in this wonderful bottle. Either way, it’s a winner. This is definitely going to be a HG in my personal make-up bag. It’s just that good.

Please Note: I would not recommend this for oilier skin types. It’s very hydrating and works best on normal/dry – dry skin and mature skin types.

Toya’s Take: As usual, I found that all the Curls products work well together or separately. I like the Curlicious cleanser a lot. What They Say: "This silky, smooth powder is perfect for cheekbones, forehead and brow bones to give skin a radiant, bronze “diva” look. Dust it on with the sensuous kabuki-style brush."

Jen's Experience: Normally, I have a really hard time making bronzer look natural on my very pale skin. They're usually just too dark and they make me look like I'm wearing a mask unless I use the lightest touch possible. But this powder from Elizabeth Arden, well, this a new experience for me. I dust this over my whole face for a nice glow, and then I come back to my cheekbones for extra contouring. It looks completely natural, not quite like I just came back from vacation in the tropics, more like I spent some time at an afternoon barbecue over the weekend (although if I actually did that and got sun, my normal coloring would be more pink than brown). The application is downright foolproof. If you've got pale skin and have been looking for a nice subtle bronzer, I can't recommend this one enough. This is the best addition to my make-up routine in some time.

Review: Sunsilk Hydra TLC 24/7 Creme

sunsilkhydratlc.jpgWhat They Say: "Rough Ends & Hairs That Stick Out All Over? Get soft hair that flows together.

Pesky little hairs sticking out every which way? Put those messy, bothersome hairs back in place with Sunsilk™ Hydra TLC 24/7 Creme with Nutri-Keratin. It's not a conditioner, not a gel - it combines the best of both. So it tames unruly flyaways for softer, more manageable hair that flows together.

What to do:
It's easy - just smooth 1 or 2 dollops through damp hair and style as usual. If needed, re-apply on dry hair for extra TLC during the day. For maximum hydration start with Hydra TLC Shampoo & Conditioner (or Multi-Symptom Masque)."

Melissa Says: Wow. I truly was skeptical that something so inexpensive could have such an effect on my hair. I apply it before blowdrying and just use a paddle or vent brush and voila - supersoft! As you know, my hair likes to have unruly ends that do this weird non-curl, wiry flying in the air thing. Right now, my hair has many ends of different lengths that are growing out, and I love that this helps my hair look more smooth and flowing, with no wiry ends giving away the different lenghts. It feels amazing, and even though the scent is a quite prevalent, I personally like it. It's kind of...well, it's "fresh" and similar to another shampoo scent, but I can't put my finger on which one it reminds me of. My husband commented on it without realizing it was my hair product, saying I smelled SO good, and asking what it was. So while some may not prefer to have something that lingers in that way, I'm keeping this a 5-lipper because it really just has amazed me in all ways.

...Smooth hair that flows together...that's exactly what it gives me.

Review: Matrix Vavoom Extra-Full Freezing Spray

vavoomextra.jpgWhat They Say: "Work that body! This long-lasting aerosol hairspray offers ultimate workability that you can layer on to lock in texture, volume and lift. The water-free formula even includes UV filters to protect hair from sun damage."

Melissa Says: I haven't really been much of a "hairspray girl" for several years. Mostly, I keep it on hand for the occasional half-up style or to keep some still-growing-out hairs in place in a ponytail. For those purposes, this spray worked quite well. If spritzed lightly and not super-close to the head, it didn't make my hair crispy-feeling, added some nice shine, and held everything in its place. Still, I wanted to give this spray a chance to do some real work. Per the suggestion on the back of the bottle, I tried to also utilize this by spraying near roots and blowdrying for volume and style memory. Well, as they also say, the formula dries quickly, so you might want to work on only a section at a time, but this really did add volume when dried with a round brush near the roots. I did have to make sure to brush out any hardened bits, but they worked out easily with no dry flaking - and again the overall effect was still clean-looking with a bit of shine, only with added texture. Though you may not use this every day, this is still an effective product for its intended use.

Review: Babor HY- Öl + Phytoactive Reactivating Cleansing Box Set

babor.jpgWhat They Say: "BABOR CLEANSING is the first step to beautiful skin. BABOR has combined the natural cleansing power of oil and water to create a unique signature bi-phase cleansing system that ensures mild but thorough deep-cleansing. This Jubilee Cleansing Box Set contains HY-OL 200ml, suitable for all skin types, and Phytoactive Reactivating 100ml formulated to revitalize and thoroughly moisturize demanding skin or skin in need of regeneration. Also delays the effects of light-induced aging."

Toya’s Take: As an oily-skinned gal, I quite skeptically viewed the box of Babor Cleansing Oil. It just didn’t make sense to me to use an oil-based cleanser – wouldn’t that just exacerbate the oiliness of my skin? From all I’ve read from other beauty bloggers and in magazines, these oil-based cleansers are whizzes at cutting through dirt, make-up and, surprisingly, oil. I decided to put that to the test. So, after a recent photo shoot, when I was in full tribal make-up, I used the Babor Cleansing Oil products to remove my make-up.

Following the instructions on the box, I applied four pumps of the HY-OL cleansing oil to my face, rubbing in a circular motion; followed by two pumps of the Phytoactive Sensitive, which is a water soluble cleanser. I then wet my fingers and massaged it all into my skin. Well, consider me flabbergasted and proven wrong, y’all! I swear, that stuff cut through the fifteen layers of make-up instantly and it all washed clean away – no further washings or toner required! Truly, I was amazed. Afterward, my face just felt clean and soft – no tightness like I experience after using powerful cleansers, nor any added oiliness. Just clean. Wow. This is wonderful, wonderful stuff – I will keep it to use for whenever I need to remove stage make-up. I haven’t found anything that works better.

Retail Price: $44 for the box set (at babor.com, and in addition to there you can also get products individually at spalook.com)

Review: Coppertone Oil Free Sunscreen Lotion for Faces, Fragrance Free, SPF 30

coppertone-faces3.jpgWhat They Say:

  • Won't clog pores or cause breakouts
  • Non-greasy, hypoallergenic, and non-irritating
  • Fragrance-free
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • Helps prevent premature skin aging from the sun
  • Contains antioxidant vitamins A & E
  • Water resistant
  • Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection, with Avobenzone
  • Available in 3 oz. size

Melissa Says: I cannot rave enough about this. What can I say? It's inexepensive, effective, lighter than you can IMAGINE (think close to whipped cream airy-ness) and soaks into the skin leaving absolutely no trace of slickness or shine, therefore having no effect on your makeup. I completely love this stuff. There is no reason to shy away from applying sunscreen every single morning with something this hassle-free sitting right there.

(I took a picture of my tube because it's a new packaging design that isn't reflected on the online sites yet. I wouldn't want you to be looking for the wrong tube when you go to the store! You might still find the old version with a red and black label.)

Review: ColorSurge Eyeshadow Trio in “Doe-Eyed”

clinique_freshbloomshadow.jpgWhat They Say: "Creamy, intense shadows build quickly, blend easily to a wash of long-lasting colour. Three coordinating shades for a wardrobe of possibilities—each can be worn alone, as pairs, or layered together. Sleek, transparent-bottom case makes it easy to select shades. Ophthalmologist tested."

Jamie’s Thoughts: This trio is an instant classic – a super soft pink, a muted chocolate brown, and a light brown with grey tones. The light brown also has a VERY subtle bit of sparkle – so subtle, in fact, that I didn’t notice it at first.

I realize my purpose here is to explain to you what amazing things this product does for my eyes, but alas, I have no words. Allow me to describe it a different way: the first time I wore it, I loved my face so much that I did a victory dance to Scissor Sisters’ “Ooh” all over my apartment. The whole song, I’m not kidding. It was a first.

I used pink all over the lid, the dark brown in the crease, and the light brown as a highlighting sweep over the more dramatic dark brown. It makes my eyes look youthful (but not overly trendy), polished, and appropriate for a day at the office, or a date on Saturday night. The compact has a mirror, and the application tool is sponge-tipped on one end, and has a soft brush on the other end. The consistency of each shadow is smooth, soft, and easy to blend (or deepen with repeated use of the same color). When I’m in a hurry, I just sweep some of the pink on, and I look instantly polished and alert.

This is a must-have for spring – for any age, any style, and anyone who wants to look naturally beautiful, but not overly made up. I highly recommend this product for redheads, especially.

Retail Price: $21.50 (Check your local Clinique counter. Their website is, sadly, sold out.)

Review: Tocca Body Wash, Body Cream and Soap

Occasionally, I find a new product that redefines the concept of "Totally DeLush", the designation given to our highest rated products. With Tocca's Bath and Body products, I've found a whole line that is so fabulous it should have a category all it's own. Note that Stella, a blood orange scent, is also available in perfume. I will definitely be getting some of the fragrance to round out this line of products!

--Jen

TOCCA Body Wash in StellaTocca Body Wash in Stella
"An ultra-luxurious foaming bath gel that contains natural cleansing agents from olive oil, calendula flower extracts and honey. In the shower or in the tub, Bagno Profumato gently washes and thoroughly hydrates all skin types. Also available in Cleopatra and Florence."

Jen's Experience: I can't wait to use this product every day in the shower. The absolutely delicious citrus scent wakes me up and brightens my morning. The cleanser has a great lather that makes my skin feel clean. The hydrating ingredients feel like they really moisturize my skin, but they wash away nicely. And did I mention the fantastic scent?

Retail Price: $19.00 (Tocca.com)

TOCCA Body CreamTocca Rich Body Cream
"A sumptuously rich body cream combining the benefits of natural ingredients such as cocoa butter and shea butter with our signature fragrances. Absorbs easily and leaves the skin soft and supple with a dewy glow. Also available in Cleopatra and Florence."

Jen's Experience: As with the body wash, the scent is a major selling point for this product. But that's not the only reason this product is fantastic. When I use it right out of the shower, the moisturizer melts right into my skin. It doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy at all -- I can put my clothes on moments after I apply it -- yet it works throughout the day. The scent lasts throughout the day as well. And the beautiful glass jar just tops off the whole package. This is handsdown my favorite body moisturizer. I feel like I should save it for special occasions or something, but I just can't resist using it every day.

Retail Price: $45.00 (Tocca.com)

TOCCA SoapTocca Soap
"A gentle, moisture-rich bar soap that uses key ingredients like Kukui Nut oil, blue-green algae extract and vitamin E to hydrate, firm and repair skin, leaving it soft and glowing. Available in Cleopatra, Stella and Florence."

Jen's Experience: The first thing I noticed about this soap is that the bar is gigantic! And unlike other specialty soaps I've tried, it really lasts a long time and doesn't fall apart. The scent, as with the other products, is still heavenly, although not as noticable as with the body wash. The hydrating effects are just as good as that of the body wash, though. Had I tried this product alone, I would probably be raving about it, but I think I prefer the body wash if given a choice between the two.

Review: Molton Brown Thermal Salts Muscle Soak

What They Say: Unravel the strains of the day with this dedicated muscle therapy created to restore a tense, weary body. Enriched with dynamic thermal salts and active extracts of linden and birch. Helps to flush toxins, soothe the muscles and boost skin condition, while a fresh woody aroma lifts the spirit.

Our thermal salts originate from 250 million year old seawater deposits in the German Leine Valley and are an extremely rich and concentrated source of active minerals.

What Lisa Says: Being the time of year that I tend to get outside and weed, plant and hack away at the garden, I saved this product for when I knew I’d be needing a soothing soak for aching muscles. This product was just what I had hoped it would be! A blend of linden and birch, the fragrance alone was strong but relaxing leaving a fresh forest-like scent that stayed on the skin long past my evening bath and into the next morning. My muscles did feel less sore and I noticed that it also reduced some swelling in my feet & ankles. It also seemed that small cuts and bruises that I’d received were immediately less sore and bothersome and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the work of the extract and mineral-rich formula of these small turquoise crystals.

I definitely recommend this product for those wanting a stress-busting, muscle-easing soak. Would be a lovely gift item as well.
